NRI Institute bestows
Excellence Award of the year 2003 on Dr. Chandrakant Sardeshumkh.
Dr. Chandrakant Sardeshmukh,
sitar player and disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar and Shrimati
Annapurnadevi, is getting an award on 12 January, NRI Day,
in New Delhi for his contribution to promotion of Indian music
and culture as a non- resident Indian (NRI), in countries
abroad.
This is an NRI Excellence
2003 award. The awarding organization is the NRI Institute,
New Delhi. The award will be given by hands of former Prime
Minister of India, Mr. I. K. Gujral.
The British High Commission
is hosting a dinner on 11th night to honor the awardee-NRIs.
Dr. Chandrakant is also
invited to perform a recital at the end of award ceremony

The NRI Institute is
an international organization of Indians and Non Resident
Indians. It aims to keep Indians well informed about the achievements
and problems of NRIs through conferences, seminars, journals
and exchange of visits of delegations. The institute also
promotes NRI investments in India and paves the way for them
in this regard with an effective approach to the Government
and other authorities.
The institute was founded
in the year 1989 and has so far organized 24 International
Conferences apart from other promotional activities and several
significant seminars on various important issues. With a past
record of 12 international conferences in India and 12 in
USA! , UK, Bangkok, Singapore and Bahrain, the institute has
also organized several successful symposia on specific issues
from time to time at the national level.
To coincide with The
Second Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, the NRI institute is celebrating
NRI DAY. The morning inaugural session is dedicated to issues
of concern to the NRIs for effective future investments in
the States of the Indian Union, with a spotlight on increasing
economic ties between India and Britain, Presents a unique
opportunity to meet Non Resident Indians from all over the
world, on 12th January 2004, The Grand Intercontinental Hotel,
New Delhi.
The former Prime Minister
of India, Shri I K Gujral, will inaugurate and give the awards.
Shri S S Dhindsa, Union Minister for Fertilizers and Chemicals,
Dr L M Singhvi, Chairman, Shri R L Bhatia M P, Member, Committee
of Indian Diaspora will address the various sessions. This
event offers an exclusive opportunity to interact with a select
group NRIs and the captains of the India Business world. His
Excellency Michael Arthur, the British High Commissioner to
India has consented to speak on the occasion.
Excellence Awards for
the year 2003 will be presented on the occasion.
The British High Commissioner
to India, H.E. Michael Arthur will be the
Guest of Honor for the dinner session at 7.30PM at Taj Palace
Hotel, Sardar
Patel Marg, New Delhi. He has invited the awardee-NRIs for
a
reception on the 11th January 2004, 6.00 PM, at his residence.
