Hmm
- well, what can we say.... The flyer said first
200 people 15 only... well, we think they were
luck if there were even 100 there. The dinner
started late - with main courses still being
served at 11pm - 8.15 start? Temple Pier yacht...
hmm ok boat yes - yacht - hmm, maybe a few years
ago...
|
|
The only compensation was the amazing view - which
was way better than the belly dancer, who "although
is pretty, lacks in the dancing technique area"
(quote anon man!). We thought - no matter, and
looked |

sleeptalk.com
or sleepwalk.. you decide
|
|
we
decided..... sleepwalk :o(
|
| forward
to the music the rest of the evening.... not sure
what happened, but one minute bhangra, the next
minute jungle... then back to bhangra... then
a bit of house... huhn???? The other rooms fared
even worse & by 1am the boat was even emptier
than it had been all evening. The main dining
room had been filled with the main crowd - only
packed as nobody bother to move the dining tables.
Saying that though, the crowd was great, mainly
mature 25 - 40 olds. The men were respectful,
even with the amazingly beautiful & scantily
clad women! Sorry, but it was a real let down
& we were really disappointed. 2/10 |

Attractions
Event Eid Soiree was held at the swish central London
restaurant Shezan, Knightsbridge. Driving past Harrods
with the Xmas lights switched on in itself was pleasant
intro to the rest of the evening. |
| Upon
entering the restaurant we were registered and escorted
into the mughal themed bar area, where mehndi was being
applied in one area, kusseh being sold in another, all
in aid of raising money for Shehzad |

Roys
Zindagi Trust charity. Unfortunately the live percussions,
followed by the singer Asif Raza were mainly ignored as
the crowd - 18-25 year olds, with a few older crusties
up to the ripe old age of 30 - |

mingled,
chatted and jested. The evening was a roaring success
so far as meeting new people in general... but maybe
not for meeting Mr or Ms Right, but nobody seemed
to care especially as the evening finsihed off with
the guests very own self organised Kareoke!!! All this
with not a single alcoholic beverage consumed!!!! Great
One Attractions!!!! 9/10

Junoon
- Hammersmith Palais, London UK 2003
Sunday
30th November 2003
What can we say about
Junoon, other than - even after a decade of music they've
still got it!
The
evening started late (come on yaar- its a desi function) with
Junoon coming on stage around 10.30pm and as soon as they
came on the crowds didn't care that they had been waiting
since well before 7pm to see their legends!
|
|
The crowd consisted
predominantly of 18 - 25 year olds - and did that
desist the oldies team at www.asiancommunity.net -
NO - we showed the youngsters how its done!
The event had
the electricity of a rock concert that would put any
heavy metal band to shame. (It still weird seeing
a bunch of desi's headbanging and bhangra-ing at the
same time though!!!!)
|
|
The evening
started off with DJs playing a good mix of Bollywood
& Bhangra to get everyone in the mood.
The evenings'
comperes were Razia & Ray. Razia was a definate
hit with the boys - as we were constantly bombarded
with "Hai Razia" & "Raziaaaaaa"
every time she came on stage!
They introduced
a dance troupe from East London - "who danced"
& jiggled to everything from 60's tracks to funky
arabic tunes.
|
|
|
|
The dances were
followed by a band from San Franciso who had released
an album "Born Confused" - and yes - they
were definately confused - as nobody could quite make
out why they were there.
They sang a
few tracks, which seemed to be a fusion of jazz and
rock, the predominatly desi crowd were polite for
the first two numbers, however soon lost their patience
and booed them off stage. Luckily Kashif came to the
rescue, and then once Razia came on - all was forgotten
& forgiven!
|
|
Then
finally - they came - they conquered & they crashed
the music system! The crowd LOVED it!
They played
everything from Dam Mast Qalander to Heereh &
a couple of tracks from their new album "Deewar"
- the crowd did not stop pumping / jumping and headbanging
(even on the slow tracks!).
They
were loved & they knew it!
|
|
|
|
... however
as all fairytales come to an end, so did the concert
around midnight, with an encore sneaked in at the
end.
All in all,
it was an amazing experience, with a very well behaved
crowd, who were just there to enjoy themselves. A
Pakistani Rock Concert.... with no fights... who would've
thought of it! 10/10
