Glasgow Mela is a multicultural event organised by the
Scottish Academy of Asian Arts. A festival of music and
dance, with trade s and food s set in Kelvingrove Park.
Acts this year include Hunterz, Le Coco (Mauritian band),
Samba Ya Bamba, Newroz (traditional Kurdish band) and
Deseo Flamenco Group. Last year's Mela was attended by
over 20,000 people.

The event is
one of London's largest free South Asian festivals.
Featuring four stages of music, food s, fun fair and
children's entertainment.
Main Stage
DCS
Award-winning nine piece Birmingham based Bhangra band,
DCS, received four pop and movie awards in 1998 alone
and sealed the year off with a Gold Disc for Punjabi
Dance Nation.
MANAK - E & E=MC
Rapper E=Mc is becoming a household name in the Bhangra
industry and is known for his lyrical skills and creativity
both in and out of the studio! Along with prolific singer
Manak- E, known for smash hits such as Punjabian da
Dhol on Urban Flavas 1, they will be joined on stage
by dhol drummers and dancers.
RIZWAN -MUAZZAM
QAWWALI SINGERS
The nephews of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan come from a direct
family line of Qawwali vocal music that spans over five
centuries. Their inventive reinterpretations of spiritual
love songs based upon classical Islamic and Sufi texts
were first showcased in the UK at WOMAD to much critical
acclaim and have since journeyed to the far corners
of the globe.
BOLLYWOOD STRINGS
Inspired by the UK's thirst for cross over music and
led by violinist Chandru famed for Bollywood string
arrangement work with the likes of Nitin Sawhney, Talvin
Singh & Ravi Shanker, Chandru and friends present
an exciting performance combining short classical interludes
with Bollywood oldies and contemporary beats.
Bollyhood Stage
- Radio
one DJ's Bobby & Nihal join forces with Croydon's
own Class Act to present this year's dance stage. There's
live MC banter, Bollywood and Street Dance presentations
and an exciting mix of live performance.

- Performance
across both days;
OSADIA
Innovative hair artists, Osadia create live hair art
on stage with anyone who dares to step into the barbers
chairs. The company from Barcelona visited Croydon in
2003 creating a stir in the Whitgift centre, now they're
back creating a mesmerising spectacle that could include
you!
WORD TRAIL
This year CSF presents the 'Word Trail' in collaboration
with England's leading organisers of performance poetry,
Apples and Snakes. Follow the trail as young people from
Croydon perform poetry, rap and songs written and perfected
in Apples and Snake's workshops. Along with the performances
in unusual structures such as a tepee and on a bike trail,
you will have the chance to partake in poetry karaoke,
produce your own sonnets on a magnetic word wall and much
more on this trail for all ages.

over 14,000 spectators last year, with coverage from ARY
