British Asian chef gets worldwide TV show

‘Cooking isn’t Rocket Science’ is a 40-episode cookery series on British food which will air on NDTV’s soon-to-be-launched Lifestyle channel.

British food has never been considered gourmet – in fact, popular perception is that it's quite the opposite. But the show's host, Manju Malhi, one of Britain’s most popular chefs, reveals that there's more to British food than the standard fish and chips. Reputed for being a unique cross-over gourmet, Manju unveils her tempting recipes for bangers and mash, lamb chops, a typical English breakfast, muffins, the Queen's tea, mango crumble, baked beans balti, couscous salad, the Scottish dessert Cranachan, and a lot more.

What distinguishes this show from other cookery programmes is that it will teach viewers how to prepare classic British dishes with readily accessible local ingredients in India. Mangoes will replace traditional raspberries, soya chunks will replace tofu, chicken sausages will replace pork sausages, and lamb and mutton will replace beef - while retaining the essence of the original dish.

After converting the British into loyalists of Indian cuisine, watch Manju return the favour by setting up kitchen in India to whip up near-authentic British cuisine with a delectable desi tadka.

About Manju Malhi:

Manju Malhi was raised in North West London where she grew up surrounded by Indian culture and traditions. However, she spent several years of her childhood in India where she explored and experienced the vast and varied cuisines of the country. In her cooking, she draws on her past and combines it with the realities of urban Western life and has come up with her own unique Brit-Indi style of food. It's easy Indian home cooking. She won the BBC Food and Drink's competition in 1999, and cooked with Antony Worrall Thompson on BBC2 and was invited back a second time.

Manju's ‘Simply Indian’ series was aired on the Taste Network in early 2001. Her award-winning book 'Brit Spice' was published in 2002 by Penguin Books, and the paperback version in June 2003. She has also appeared amongst several other programmes, on ITV's This Morning, Channel 5's Open House and The Terry and Gaby Show, Sky One, UKTV Food's Good Food Live and BBC2's Saturday Kitchen.

Her latest book covering regional Indian home cuisine was published by Mitchell Beazley in 2004 and is entitled 'India with Passion'. Manju is now working on her third book and exploring more ideas on simple yet delicious dishes which she hopes will encourage more and more people to experiment with spices and make more Asian delicacies.

She has also been asked to create the concept of a 'British' restaurant in Delhi. She loves hosting cookery theatres around the country promoting the easy ethos of Indian home cooking.
