Capturing 'The Face of Multicultural Britain Today' - 29th March 2005

One hundred years on, the UK's largest Children's Charity, Barnardo's is celebrating its Centenary year with various activities to help support children just like they did THEN. The society in which children and young people lived 100 years ago was different in many ways from that of today. However, many of the issues that affect children's lives have not changed So, Barnardo's wants to get the community involved and help make a difference. To mark the centenary milestone of the death of Barnardo's founder, Dr. Barnardo, a photographic competition is being launched.

A photographic competition supported by local communities is launched this month, entitled "The Face of Multicultural Britain Today". In order to enter the competition, participants will be asked to capture a natural image of what they perceive to be multicultural in today's British Society. Images will need to be accompanied with 50 words describing the image. Professional photographers and celebrities supporting the charity will select the winning entries. Not only will the winners be picked by some of the most influential people in the photographic industry, but will also get the chance for their work to be published in the 2006 Barnardo's official calendar to be launched in October. Entries will be judged from three age categories: 10-15 year olds, 16-25 year olds and 25+.

So start snapping! There are no excuses, anyone can enter young or old, amateurs or professionals. Entries should be received by 2nd May 2005 to Barnardo's Photographic Competition, 3rd Floor Howarine House, 5-6 Empire Way, Wembley, Middlesex, HA9 0XA. All proceeds from the sale of the Calendars will go towards helping the thousands of underprivileged children and their families in the UK.
