MASSIVE LONDON MUSLIM UNITY MARCH TO EXPOSE THE OPPRESSION OF THE 'WAR ON TERROR' - 25th April 2005

Thousands of Muslims from all over the UK will march from London’s Marble Arch to Paddington Green Police Station this Saturday [April 30th]. The non-partisan and non-sectarian demonstration is entitled "Muslims United Against Oppression" and has been organised by a variety of Muslim organisations which have come together to undertake the largest march of this kind on a Muslim unity platform.

Demonstrators will express their firm opposition to draconian anti-terrorism legislation, the detention of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, extradition of Muslims to the USA, increased stop and search procedures against Muslims and the labelling of liberation struggles in Palestine, Kashmir, Iraq and Chechnya as 'terrorism'.

Dr Adnan Siddiqui, an organiser of the demonstration, said, “This demonstration sends a clear message against the climate of fear that has been created by these draconian anti-terrorism laws and disproportionate arrests targeted at a community which has made a significant contribution to this society."

"Our community cannot afford to be silent in the face of the 'war on terror' and its domestic and international manifestations – we must stand together with strength and confidence to dispel the myths about Islam and the Muslim community."

The protest will convene on Saturday 30th April 2005 at 10.30 a.m. BST at Marble Arch and will move towards Paddington Green Police Station. Marchers will hear short speeches at Marble Arch by Muslim community leaders urging them to stand up against the oppression of the 'war on terror'.
