THE
FACE OF MULTICULTURAL BRITAIN TODAY - WINNERS ANNOUNCED

After
weeks of entries pouring in, the winners for the Barnardo's
photographic competition entitled 'The Face of Multicultural
Britain Today' have now been confirmed. Entries have
flown in from all corners of the UK, from all ages and
cultural backgrounds, each showing an interesting and
diverse perception of multicultural Britain today. The
winners are:

'The Face of Multicultural Britain Today' Panel of Celebrity
Judges Announced - 15th June 2005
One hundred years
on, the UK's largest Children's Charity, Barnardo's
is celebrating its Centenary year with various activities
to help support children just like they did THEN. As
part of this activity, a photographic competition now
in its final stage, was launched in February. The panel
of celebrity judges for the competition has now been
announced, as the final week for entries is approaching.
The photographic
competition entitled "The Face of Multicultural
Britain Today" is supported by local communities.
In order to enter the competition, participants have
been asked to capture a natural image of what they perceive
to be multicultural in today's British Society. The
judging panel includes Meera Syal, Floella Benjamin,
Missy D, Poulomi Desai and Errol John.
Meera Syal is
best known for her television roles in 'Life Isn't All
Ha Ha Hee Hee' and 'The Kumars at No 42'. Meera is not
only a successful writer but also a fantastic actress
with various awards under her belt and an MBE awarded
to her in 1998. Floella Benjamin, Vice President of
Barnardo's, is best known for her presenting days on
BBC's pre-school programme 'Play School'. She has also
appeared in various dramas and theatre productions.
MissyD the well-known radio personality of Club Asia
is also a trained professional photographer with a keen
interest in photojournalism, and has assisted on various
fashion shoots for magazines such as Attitude and Loaded.
Poulomi Desai's photographic and performance work has
spanned over 15 years, with work exhibited all over
the world including Calcutta and New York. Her work
has been published by Dazed and Confused, Phaidon and
her recent monograpgh Red Threads. And finally Errol
John new opportunities Manager for Barnardo's who is
the driving force behind the increased awareness of
the Charitiy's work with Black and minority ethnic communities
including the Babyfather Initiative and the photographic
exhibition highlighting issues around domestic violence,
"Behind Closed Doors".
Winners will get
the chance for their work to be published in the 2006
Barnardo's official calendar to be launched in November.
Entries will be judged from three age categories: 10-15
year olds, 16-25 year olds and 25+.
With one week
left, get your entries in! There are no excuses, anyone
can enter young or old, amateurs or professionals. Entries
should be received by 27th June 2005 to Barnardo's Photographic
Competition, 3rd Floor Howarine House, 5-6 Empire Way,
Wembley, Middlesex, HA9 0XA. All proceeds from the sale
of the Calendars will go towards helping the thousands
of underprivileged children and their families in the
UK.
