Prominent
actor Anupam Kher to conduct workshops for BollyIdol

The
Indian actor and international star, Anupam Kher has
added his support, to BollyIdol by offering to lead
a 2 day workshop for BollyIdol semi-finalists.
BollyIdol - the
national talent search for young people interested in
Bollywood-style theatre has entered its 2nd year. The
winners of BollyIdol 2005 will be given an opportunity
to showcase their talent in Pagal, a new dance-drama
production.
It is important
to have actors well versed with their craft, for the
evolution of any genre says Kher, (who trained
at the National School of Drama, Delhi and the Film
and Television Institute of India, Pune.
The actor explained
that he was pleased to conduct the workshops and also
offered one of the workshop participants an opportunity
to undertake a regular 3 month course at his acting
school in Mumbai, Actor Prepares.
Any actor who
graduates from Actor Prepares will be exposed to most
forms and genres of theatre, cinema and acting, says
Kher who promises that BollyIdols will not learn acting,
but experience it.
Kher, a versatile
performer has written, directed, produced and acted
both for the theatre as well as cinema and latterly
on international television. His theatre credits include
a one man show (Kuch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai.) and Saalgirah,
a two hander, with his wife, Kirron Kher in Hindi, that
was critically acclaimed on the International circuit.
He is currently
appearing in Mistress of Spices but is best know internationally
as Mr Bhamra in the phenomenally successful, Bend it
Like Beckham. After acting in over 200 Hindi films,
he directed Om Jai Jagdish. His film credits include
Dil, Lamhe, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le
Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hain and the awaited Rang De
Basanti.
BollyIdol is an
intensive audition and training programme created by
Phizzical Productions to foster young talent interested
in performing arts. Founder, Samir Bhamra explains that
the reason for the initiative was that there are many
young Asian people who do not have formal training but
are talented and determined. I wanted to create
a platform to find the new faces of tomorrow.
The winners of
BollyIdol 2004, performed in PRECIOUS BAZAAR, a tale
of young love, family values and honour combining supercharged
action, dance, music and intense drama.
