Mother-in-laws have been the butt of many jokes on shows like Goodness Gracious Me, but for any woman sharing a strained relationship with her husband or boyfriend’s mum, the problems it can create are no laughing matter.

It is a problem which many women in the Asian community can relate to as many will find that no matter how hard they try, they are just never going to be considered good enough for their saas’s bundle of joy. It seems not even being one of Bollywood’s top actresses means you are immune to the problems of a hostile ‘saas.’

One of the biggest talking points during this year’s Filmfare awards, (the Bollywood equivalent of the Oscars) was the icy atmosphere between Jaya Bachchan and her future bahu Karisma Kapoor as Jaya made it more than obvious that she was far from happy with the idea of Karisma taking her place as the most important person in her son’s life.

She even went as far as to take pot shots at Karisma during her acceptance speech for her award for best supporting actress for the film Fiza.

However, Karisma was far from a passive victim of Jaya’s ire, turning up at the event in the shortest, tightest, tartiest outfit she could possibly find and looking absolutely amazing in it.
